Day 34

It is important to finish what we have been doing well. Since we began our Personal Daily Bible Study, it has been over 33 days excluding Sundays. If you have been doing your personal daily Bible study, I bet that you have lots of questions on what you think as you read or hear the Bible. Applying God's words in our thinking and living is Theological Reflection. We need to find out better way for us (me) to apply God's words in our (my) situation. God is with us always. God's words is open to all. And it is our blessing to have the words of God in our living. May God bless each one of us continually so that we can experience the joy of having the Words of God in our daily living..

How to do your Personal Bible Study
(1) Begin your Personal Bible Study with prayer (2) Ask God for God’s wisdom and spiritual guidance (3) Read the scripture (4) Pray, giving thanks to God for what your heart is touched by the scripture (5) Read the Personal Bible Study (6) Finish with the Lord’s Prayer.
When you pray, pray in the name of Jesus Christ as (1) Jesus Christ is God’s divine way for our salvation: Mediator, Savior, Lord, and Christ, as (2) God has given us the name, Jesus Christ, for our salvation (Acts 4:2), as (3) Jesus is God, and as (4) Jesus helps us through the Spirit of God in our prayers (Romans 8:26)

1 Corinthians 16:1-24
“For God’s People”

Apostle Paul concludes his saying with suggestions for God’s people. There are things that God’s people should know and do: Offering, helping, obeying, respecting, loving, etc. When God’s people live as God’s people, we can experience God’s peace and love.

Offering
Having a heart to offer to God is based on faith. Faith teaches us believe that God is the Creator. God gives us all we have. All we have is not ours but God’s. We are God’s steward keeping and using God’s for the glory of God. Offering is the expression of our heart as God’s steward. If we cannot offer because of our worldly situations, it means that we think that the worldly life is more important than godly live to us. Offering is the expression of our thankful heart to God. Knowing God is the Creator is not enough. Knowing God has blessing is not enough. Knowing God will do God’s work no matter what is not enough. We want to participate in God’s work and God’s service. Offering is a small part that believers can do as an intention and expression to use God’s for God’s glory.

Offering is not just giving. It is giving our hearts and minds to God. When we offer ourselves to God, we should give ourselves as a living and holy sacrifice. Giving ourselves as a living and holy sacrifice means, we should be ready to be used by God for the glory of God. Our offering should contain those Godly hearts. We want to be used by God for the glory of God. And we want to be used by God continually. That is why our offering is not just a one-time event. Whenever we have something, we should give thanks to God. And in our thankful heart, we want to contain others as well. Therefore, offering is not only to express our thankful heart but also to help and support.

We want to support in godly ways. Matthew 6:3-4 reads, “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Believers need to serve wherever they are. They need to help others wherever they are. But the best way to help others and work for the glory of God is that they work and serve through the church’s missions and ministry. When they offer some to their church to help people in need and when the church uses the offering to help people, those who receive and use the offering will remember that God help them. If individual person help people in need, they will give thanks to the one who help them.

Helping and supporting each other is Godly desire. We should do that continually. That is why in the Old Testament there were three different kinds of tithing: give one tenth of all gaining, give one tenth to help and maintain (Deuteronomy 14:28), and give one tenth to the Levites so that they can do their spiritual duties (Nehemiah 10: 38). This giving can be too much for some people. But, with faith, it should be clear that believers should give thanks to God for God’s grace, love, and blessings. It doesn’t matter whether others do tithe or not. It is your personal action before God. We know Jesus said in Matthew 19:24 “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” If we read New Testament, Luke 20:25, Jesus says “give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.” Jesus praised a poor widow who offered just two small copper coins. Jesus says in Mark 12:43-44 “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on.”

Using what God has given us for the glory of God is not a special thing. It doesn’t matter if you have many or small. God sees our hearts when we offer. Not everyone can give all to the people in need and follow Jesus Christ. But, believers should know that all they have is God’s and they should use God’s for the glory of God. If they have no heart of stewards of God, they should check their faith before God. How do you use God’s in your daily living? How do you understand all you have in terms of God as the Creator?

Do everything in love (14)
God’s people need to treat their spiritual leaders as God’s servants who had God’s calling and responded to God’s calling with their sincere hearts. Being called by God doesn’t always happen because they are smarter than others, richer than others, or more powerful or experienced than others. When we serve God with humble heart with others, we can praise and please our God. God’s calling is not always to lead people. It can be to serve, to teach, to pray, or to sacrifice. Offing is one of those as well. When we respond to God’s calling, we need to remember that we should do what God wants us to do in love. It is not our love but God’s love. God’s love has humility, forgiveness, grace, service, self-sacrifice and so on.
God’s people need to know to encourage each other. Spiritual people are not necessarily strong with their spirit and faith always. Even spiritual leaders need encouragement and recognition. And when we listen to each other to work and serve together for the glory of God, we can experience God’s kingdom in our gathering.

God’s church is the body of Christ. The body of Christ works for the glory of God. The body of Christ obeys God and God’s words. God’s church respects each other and serve each other. It is for the glory of God. God’s church, therefore, do worship, fellowship, service, education, mission and ministry in the grace of God.

How do you practice your faith in your life, in your relations, and in God’s church? How do you respond to God’s calling in your daily living? Do you believe that you are in right track according to God’s will?
Amen.
